Recommendations for publication

Texts submitted to the journal must follow its formatting guidelines, as well as the following recommendations:

  • Texts submitted to the journal must be original and should not be under consideration by any other journal or other type of publication.
  • Works previously disseminated at symposiums, seminars, and conferences will be published when they offer specific and relevant interest. In this case, they must present structural changes in the original text and title, and must also include the place(s) and date(s) of previous publication.
  • In order for articles to be published in Portuguese and English, they must be submitted in both languages. If the author wishes to publish in only one language, this must be expressly stated on the submission form. However, the abstract and keywords must be submitted in both languages.
  • Original articles have a maximum length of 20 pages, including tables and figures (approximately 6000 words). The abstract should not exceed 250 words and there should be a maximum of five keywords (indexed in MeSH or DeCS descriptors). Abstracts in a language other than the body text and bibliographical references are not counted for pagination purposes.

Review/update articles, opinion pieces and reviews have a maximum length of 6 pages (approximately 3000 words).

  • The formatting must comply with the requirements set out in the template provided for the submission of papers.
  • Citations and bibliographical references must follow Vancouver style with square brackets.
  • The authors of articles submitted for publication are responsible for respecting copyright and related rights with regard to citations, transcriptions, paraphrases, figurative elements or graphics integrated into the texts. The editors accept no responsibility in this regard.
  • By submitting works for publication in the journal, and upon acceptance for publication, authors automatically grant the right of publication, while retaining full intellectual property rights to the submitted works.
  • Authors are automatically granted the right to deposit articles published in the journal in institutional repositories, using the PDF provided.
  • All submitted works will be subject to a completely anonymous review process, involving at least two expert opinions. The editors reserve the right to publish the submitted works, basing their decision on the opinions obtained and informing the authors of their decision. The result of the review process is carried out by filling out a matrix.
  • The editorial team may accept, reject or return the original with suggestions for changes in form and/or content, with the aim of achieving consistency, clarity, fluidity and spelling and grammatical correctness in the text, or to adapt it to publication and pagination standards, particularly with regard to the form of bibliographic citations. After review and correction, the work must be returned by the author(s) within a maximum of seven days.
  • In case of rejection, the journal editors are responsible for deleting the submitted documents.
  • The decision to accept a text for publication does not imply that it will be published in the immediately following issue.
  • Papers must be preceded by a title page containing only the title of the paper, the authors' names, affiliation, qualifications, postal address, telephone number and email address. The authorship of the paper is removed from the text and from the Properties option of the document/file, so that it can be submitted for blind peer review.
  • The Journal does not publish articles that express racist or sexist content or that violate the moral or religious integrity of individuals.
